Frequently asked Questions

What are your fees?

My fee for individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions is £65 for 50 minutes. I may be able to offer concessions in some circumstances.

My fee for couples counselling is £85 for 60 minutes.

My fee for supervision sessions is £70 for 60 minutes.

Fees are payable before or at each session unless otherwise agreed. If you wish to pay by BACS, please make payment before the session.

What happens if I miss or cancel a session?

If a session is cancelled at short notice, I will endeavour to offer you another appointment time that week. If this is not possible, I will need to charge for the session.

On the rare occasion that I need to cancel a session, I will contact you as soon as possible to arrange another appointment at a mutually convenient time that same week.

What should I know before arriving?

I will give you clear instructions to my therapy room. I am based near the Victoria Hospital in Lewes.

I do not have a waiting room, so please arrive as close to your appointment time as possible. Sessions start on time, so if you are late, the session will still need to end at the usual time. In this case, the full fee will still apply.

What happens in the first counselling session?

In the first session, I will carry out an assessment to see whether my form of treatment is appropriate for you at this time. You can also decide whether you feel able to work with me.

I will ask a few questions so I can understand your current situation and answer any queries you may have. We will go through a counselling contract and then agree a plan for our work together.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

I work with people on both a short-term and longer-term basis. Some people only need a few sessions.

I usually recommend an initial course of six sessions, followed by a review of our work. There is no obligation to attend all six sessions. I would, however, suggest an arranged ending session so that we can discuss any other forms of support that may be helpful.

What is the best therapy for me?

All schools of therapy have similar themes running through them, though each may use different language. Fundamentally, it is the quality of the listening relationship that is key to the quality of the treatment.
